Is it possible to connect a keyboard to an LG TV? Air Mouse T2 - Compact air mouse for comfortable use of smart TV

About a month ago I bought myself a 40-inch LED TV Samsung H5500, I’m as happy with the TV as an elephant, but almost immediately I was faced with the fact that it’s inconvenient to control the standard remote control, especially in smart TV and browser. And typing on the on-screen keyboard using a standard remote control resembled the hellish torture of level 99... Therefore, just a couple of days later I began to look for a more convenient option for controlling the TV

I rejected the keyboard options right away, because firstly there are no Russian letters, secondly the buttons are ridiculously small and thirdly such remote controls are quite bulky. It was decided to choose something compact and then the hero of the review caught my eye.

The mouse was packed in a simple cardboard box

The reverse side shows how to connect to the device (I didn’t do anything like that, the mouse worked automatically with all devices), reset it to factory settings, and also adjust the cursor sensitivity.

The air mouse looks good. No corners, only roundness))
There are the following buttons (listed from top to bottom and left to right):
- Enable/disable
- Decrease/increase volume.
- Control buttons in the menu and the central OK button
- Back button (aka exit) and menu
- Home
- Button for centering the mouse or enabling/disabling the air function
- Up and down for turning pages in the browser, etc.
- Mute

The mouse has an ergonomic shape with the center of gravity at the bottom. Fits perfectly in the hand.

Weight is just over 60 grams.

Size - compact. For example, against the background of a standard remote control and a box of matches:

Powered by 2 AAA batteries. Voracity is unknown, but the mouse automatically turns off after 20 seconds of inactivity. To get it ready, just press any button.

The nanoreceiver was hidden in a special niche under the lid. Size - tiny)

Now for the work of air mice. I connected it to a TV, laptop, tablet - it works well with all devices, but there is a small nuance when working with a TV. I made a short video review in which I showed how it works with these devices.

If you don’t have time to watch the video, I’ll briefly describe it:
With a laptop and tablet there are no problems at all, the keys of a standard mouse are replaced with buttons, movement controls the cursor. The power button also works (the laptop turns off) and volume up and down.

Works 95% with TV. 5 percent is the on/off button and volume. They do not work directly by pressing, however, by calling up the context menu on the TV, you can use the on-screen buttons to adjust the volume, as well as turn off the TV. This can be clearly seen in the video review. In any case, it is very convenient to use, many times better than a standard remote control. And typing in a search engine has ceased to be torture, now in order to select a movie I don’t need to turn gray and tear my hair out trying to press letters with the remote control, I can quickly type the necessary words on the on-screen keyboard using this mouse.

P.s If anyone is interested in the TV, which I made the other day.

Thank you all for your attention!

Smart TVs are becoming more and more popular every year. These devices acquire new functions, and users have a lot of questions. For example, how to connect a keyboard to a TV. But only at first such tasks seem impossible.

Connection

It's no secret that you can connect different equipment to your TV. In addition to the usual tuners, speakers and players, it has become easy to connect an external hard drive and a PC hard drive. It is now possible to connect various flash drives, including smartphones.

Since TV now allows you to search for data on the Internet, accompanying gadgets are needed to make working with the browser easier. The remote control, although equipped with new functions, a keyboard and a touchpad, is still very inconvenient for typing. Therefore, users want to figure out how to connect the keyboard to the TV.

You can use wired and wireless devices. But there are several nuances that need to be taken into account when purchasing this or that device. For example, connecting a keyboard via a USB cable is not a problem, but a wireless gadget works provided that the TV is equipped with a Bluetooth function.

Accordingly, it is much easier to connect any wired device, since there are a sufficient number of necessary connectors on the back panel of the TV.

Compatibility issues

But the question of whether a keyboard can be connected to a TV depends a lot on the equipment manufacturer. There is a high probability that some cheap Chinese keyboard is unlikely to work correctly. Therefore, it is better to immediately clarify compatibility.

So, you can take a closer look at products from famous brands. For example, office models from Gembird, Genius, A4tech and similar manufacturers will definitely work with smart TVs. Therefore, in this case, connecting the keyboard to the TV will not be difficult even for a child.

Connection

If you have a wired keyboard or mouse in your hands, all you need to do is find the required connector on the back of the TV. Since almost all gadgets are now connected via a USB port, this should not pose any difficulties.

Typically, there are several corresponding connectors on the back of the TV. You can connect a keyboard to one of them. If it doesn't work correctly, try another port. Sometimes connector revisions may not match.

If you have a wireless device in your hands, you need to get an adapter. It is enough to install it in the appropriate connector: it is usually marked LAN. You may need instructions for this.

Notification

The TV should respond appropriately to a correct connection. If you connect a keyboard and mouse to the TV, you will see a message on the screen indicating that a new device has been installed. Usually, after this, both devices are ready to function and therefore do not require additional configuration.

It may be that the TV will notify you that the equipment is connected, but not supported. This happens with cheap devices. In some cases, the TV may not see the keyboard at all. In this case, you can try connecting it to a different port, but most likely this will not help either.

You should also be prepared for the fact that although the keyboard can be connected to the TV, it may happen that some functions will not work. Although users usually purchase it for conveniently entering information into the search bar, so nothing more is required. But the “native” keyboard works much more efficiently.

Settings

If you manage to find the right port and install the device in it, you can customize it for yourself. Almost all TVs now have the same system shell, so the interface does not differ significantly. The user needs to go to the “Menu”, find the “System” and “Device Manager” items.

Depending on the model, this path may differ slightly. Therefore, you will have to refer to the instructions in case of confusion. There are not many options in Device Manager, but here you can try to configure hardware management.

So, here you can configure switching the keyboard layout to a convenient combination. It is possible to adjust the cursor and select the main button on the mouse.

Setting up a wireless connection

To set up a wireless connection, you should also go to “Device Manager”. It may be that the wired connection option is disabled because the wireless connection is active, and vice versa.

To connect a wireless keyboard to your TV, you may need to go to Device Manager and select Connect a Bluetooth device. The TV will start searching for connected equipment. After detecting the keyboard, it will ask you to connect to it. It will be enough to agree with this team.

Device capabilities

As mentioned earlier, you can connect not only third-party devices to the TV, but also “native” ones. For example, developers release a proprietary keyboard that has more complete functionality and allows you to very finely customize how you work with the equipment.

The question is: does the user need all the additional functions that the manufacturer imposes on him? Everything is very individual. It is worth saying that a regular keyboard and mouse can easily cope with the tasks. They are especially helpful when using an Internet browser.

Management in this case is no different from that which occurs in a PC. While watching a program, you can use the mouse: double clicking takes the user to the Smart Hub menu.

How to connect a keyboard from the manufacturer to the TV? You need to do everything that was described earlier. It is enough to use a wired or wireless connection. In this case, the TV will install the device almost instantly and begin working with it, since they are tailored to each other.

A proprietary keyboard, for example, from Samsung is ideal for users of the same brand. It has a built-in touchpad, which turns out to be very convenient, and the keyboard, although compact in size, has large keys that are easy to hit.

The device allows you to freely navigate the TV menu and special applications and work on social networks. Although the user may still encounter some incompatibility, since it is not the device manufacturer, but the software developer, who is responsible for keyboard support in some programs.

Note

Of course, if you're just not comfortable using a remote control to enter text, then almost any keyboard will do. It doesn’t matter at all whether it will support built-in software or not.

If hardware compatibility and additional functionality are really important to you, then it is better to take a closer look at a branded device. Although you need to be prepared for the fact that it will cost much more. But manufacturing companies like to offer promotions on such kits, so you may be lucky to get a good discount.

The pace of development of household appliances is amazing. The regular TV is gradually being integrated with more and more functions. If you wish, then instead of the usual one, you can buy one with a built-in smart TV system. Or purchase it separately and connect it to your TV, which will significantly expand the functionality of your “favorite”.

Why is this

Using your mouse you can:

  • “communicating” with the TV in the usual manner - with a “mouse” - is much easier than understanding a bunch of buttons on the remote control;
  • move through the menu faster, and also use the capabilities of the Internet browser 100%.

To properly access your “window on the world,” you will need a keyboard and mouse. There is simply no other method to adequately use all the capabilities of a web browser. And the problem arises - how to connect it?

Of course, there are many ports on the side of the device. But sometimes, simply connecting the mouse connector does not help. After joining, it may simply not be detected by the system. And a reasonable question arises - what to do?

So how to do this?

First of all, let's get back to the instructions. It must clearly state which brands must be compatible with this device. Usually, it is enough to install a gadget from the specified manufacturer and the problem is solved. First of all, you need to look for models from the same manufacturer for this particular smart TV system. It is quite possible that the model will end up at the same retail outlet where you purchased your TV or set-top box.

But it also happens that there is no “native” mouse, and an alternative device is still not detected. For example, TV in 2012 does not see previously released devices. In this case, you will either have to be patient and try different manufacturers, or look for new firmware for your TV. A wireless model may also be suitable. An excellent option would be to contact a store or service center of this brand so that they can help you find a working device that is compatible with your TV. After all, they should already have sufficient experience in dealing with such situations.

It’s no secret that modern TVs can connect various additional devices, and in this publication we’ll talk about how to connect a keyboard and mouse to a Samsung Smart TV. It should be said that you can connect both wired and wireless input devices to the TV panel, which work using Bluetooth technology or a USB transceiver. However, you can connect a keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth if your TV has this function, but wireless input devices with a miniature USB transceiver do not need this.

It must be said that according to the developers from Samsung, keyboards and mice from not all manufacturers are compatible with TVs. But most models starting from 2012 (read here) will work with input device manufacturers such as Logitech, A4tech, Genius, CBR, Apple and of course Samsung, but I will mention their creations below.

I can say with confidence that the Samsung TV will also work with a keyboard and mouse from Gembird and some pointing devices from Chinese friends. Well, let's get down to business and connect the keyboard and mouse to the Smasung TV. I will demonstrate the entire process using a model from the 2012 line. In the following series, only the interface differs, but the process of connecting input devices is fundamentally similar.

The connection process itself is quite simple and should not cause you any difficulties. Take a cable with a USB plug from input devices or a transceiver if you are connecting a wireless keyboard or mouse and insert it into the USB connector of the TV.

If the connection is successful, Smart TV will notify you with a message that a new device is connected to the TV and after that the keyboard and mouse will be ready for use. You may also receive a notification that not all applications support the new connected device. One way or another, input devices to which Samsung has nothing to do are limited in functionality, unlike a proprietary keyboard, but we’ll talk about this later.

Now, if you need it, you can go to “Menu” - “System” - “Device Manager” and configure the input devices for the robot with a TV based on your preferences. Of course, “Device Manager” cannot boast of wide functionality, but the simplest settings are there.

For example, in Keyboard Options you can change the keyboard shortcuts to switch input languages, and in Mouse Options you can change the primary button (left or right), pointer size (large or small), and pointer speed (slow, standard, or fast).

Also in the “Device Manager” you can configure a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for a robot with a TV. To do this, just turn on the Bluetooth device and go to “Menu” - “System” - “Device Manager” and then select settings depending on what is connected, a keyboard or a mouse.

In the parameters, you need to click on “Add a Bluetooth keyboard” (accordingly, for the pointing device you need to select “Add a Bluetooth mouse”), after which the TV will start searching for the device automatically. After Samsung Smart TV finds a Bluetooth device, it will inform you that you need to establish a relationship between them.

Press the enter button on the remote control and confirm the action to pair the devices by pressing the “Enter” button a second time and press the “Connect” button on the connected device. That's it, now there is pairing between the TV and the mouse (keyboard).

This is how you can easily and simply connect a keyboard, a mouse with a wire or a transceiver, as well as via Bluetooth technology, to a Samsung TV panel.

Mouse, standard and proprietary keyboard capabilities.

I have already mentioned that the functionality of a regular computer mouse and keyboard in combination with a Samsung TV has some limitations, but they fulfill their main purpose. First of all, the classic keyboard and mouse are designed for a web browser.

They work flawlessly with the built-in Internet browser and, unlike a standard remote control, make it possible to comfortably search for the necessary information on the Internet and at the same time you can watch some channel.

Actually, all controls in the browser are identical to those on the computer. While watching TV channels, some functions can be performed using the mouse. For example, double-clicking the left mouse button anywhere on the screen will bring up a kind of menu from which you can go to the “Smart Hub” or open the TV’s “Menu”. One right-click will open the Tools window.

Using the manipulator in the Smart Hub, you are only free to select the required application, but the keyboard and mouse will not work with it. As for the “Menu” itself, you can freely make all settings in it using the mouse.

At this point, the capabilities of computer input devices are exhausted, but it is likely that in future models of Samsung TVs these manipulators will be given more freedom. If you are already familiar with such TV panels today, then share their capabilities in working together with computer input devices in the comments.

Now let's talk a little about the capabilities of the proprietary wireless keyboard VG-KBD1000 from Samsung. Compared to classic input devices, it simply has no boundaries and also harmoniously combines ergonomics and style. This model has rich functionality and everything in it is thought out to the smallest detail.

It allows you to conveniently control your TV and replaces not only a regular keyboard and mouse, but also a remote control. For example, the built-in touchpad allows you to literally glide the cursor across the Smart Hub interface, and the input field on the keyboard allows you to type messages on social networks. In addition, you can use it in services and, of course, fully surf the Internet.

However, do not be too deluded, because not all applications support it. This is due to the fact that keyboard support in applications is determined by the program developer, and not Samsung.

On its board it has hot keys that allow you to access the functional control of the TV. You can also use it to switch channels and adjust the volume in the TV panel. In addition, it is compatible with Samsung tablets and smartphones running the Android operating system. You can connect the keyboard to your TV using Bluetooth wireless technology.

According to the developers, this keyboard is compatible with TV models of 2012 (LED ES6100 and higher, PDP E550 and higher) and 2013 (LED F6400 and higher, PDP F5500 and higher), as well as Samsung mobile devices running Android 3.0 and higher .

It must be said that the keyboard is compatible with Samsung Smart TV models that only have a built-in Bluetooth adapter. Therefore, if your TV series E (2012), F (2013), H (2014) and the developers have equipped it with a Bluetooth adapter, then this keyboard will be supported by your television panel. If your Smart TV does not support a proprietary keyboard, then try connecting a keyboard with a radio module to it.

In conclusion, I suggest you watch the thematic video.

Does the keyboard work in other applications?

    2018-01-11T18:07:48+00:00

Pliz pliz pliz. The TV is about 3 years old. We bought a keyboard, connected it, everything was as written, pairing happened. But when I log into YouTube, it doesn’t print anything, and nfxgfl doesn’t work either. (((Trouble. Help me out, friends!!!

Marvelous. If a function is declared in a TV model, then in my understanding it should be activated by default. You need to be very careful in the engineering menu. In my practice, on one of the models, the type of matrix was accidentally changed and 3D stopped playing. Only after some time I managed to find out what was wrong and return everything to normal. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how to solve this problem. Perhaps one of the visitors will tell you.

I have a 6 series 55 inch TV. The description said that it has bluetooth. I planned to connect headphones and a keyboard with a mouse using it. And I was very surprised by the complete absence of any mention of bluetooth in the TV menu. Then on YouTube I found a description of how to turn on bluetooth and output sound to a bluetooth device. This functionality has been disabled in the engineering menu. After I managed to get into the engineering menu, and this happened after many experiments, I turned on these settings, and bluetooth-related items appeared in the TV menu. That is, now the headphones connect perfectly. It seems that the keyboard can also be connected via bluetooth (but I don’t), but the mouse cannot be connected via bluetooth. It seems again that something needs to be changed in the engineering menu. Nobody knows what exactly needs to be changed in the engineering menu so that you can connect via bluetooth and a mouse?

Estone mouse, I remember on that one (as in the pictures) everything worked

    2017-12-23T11:10:49+00:00

But what about it? But what exactly?

    2017-12-23T09:49:04+00:00

TV model - UE43MU6100U. The TV is completely new, and I'm a very careful girl. I have long wanted to buy a mouse, but there are 2 TVs in the house. They are both from Samsung, mine is new and the other is old. I remember connecting a completely different mouse to the second TV - everything worked, but with the new one I’m somehow very afraid that I’ll ruin everything... Can you help with this case?

    2017-02-20T20:17:22+00:00

We have not encountered such a problem. What if you turn off one of the TVs, connect a keyboard to the other, and then turn on the second one. Can I find out the model of the keyboard, maybe I can find out something for you?

    2017-02-20T19:58:30+00:00

Good day! Question regarding the Samsung wireless keyboard. How can I reconnect it to another TV? The fact is that there are 2 smart TVs in the house and when you try to use the keyboard on the 2nd TV, the actions are performed on the 1st.

    2017-02-02T18:28:48+00:00

Why should he suddenly burn out? No one drives amps there =)

    2017-02-02T16:14:51+00:00

Many thanks to the author. I temporarily connected a wireless mouse to a Samsung TV UE32J5500AU, found everything and it works. I'm confused by the unnatural heating of the mouse transceiver (which is plugged into USB) compared to a netbook. WILL IT NOT BURN?

    2016-11-28T00:11:04+00:00

Yes, there is hardly any incompatibility, but to discard this idea, try connecting other mice. The problem may be in the firmware.

    2016-11-27T14:25:47+00:00

Hello Hello. When a mouse is connected to a USB port, it is not detected in the system (the mouse is working (A4tech swop 80-pu8) - I take it out of the computer). TV ue22h5600 - new (10.2016). The mouse LED is on. Both USB ports work. What am I doing wrong? If this mouse is not compatible with TV (how is this possible!?), then how to find the right one?
