The Bat – Mail with pleasure. Setting up the mail program The Bat! Installing the bat

Not only is it among the most secure mailers, but it is also distinguished by a fairly comprehensive set of functions, as well as flexibility of operation.

Using such a software solution may seem unreasonably complicated to many. However, mastering The Bat! can be done very simply and quickly. The main thing is to get used to the somewhat “overloaded” interface of the email client and customize it for yourself.

Get started with email correspondence in The Bat! (and in general working with the program) is possible only by adding a mailbox to the client. Moreover, you can use several mail accounts simultaneously in the mailer.

Mail.ru mail

Integration of the Russian box into The Bat! as simple as possible. In this case, the user does not need to make absolutely any changes in the web client settings. Mail.ru allows you to simultaneously work with both the outdated POP protocol and the newer IMAP.

Gmail

Yandex Mail

Antispam for The Bat!

Despite the fact that the email client from Ritlabs is one of the most secure solutions of this kind, filtering unwanted emails is still not the program’s strong point. Therefore, in order to prevent spam from entering your email inbox, you should use third-party extension modules designed specifically for such purposes.

The AntispamSniper plugin currently copes best with its responsibilities for protecting against unwanted email messages. Read about what this plugin is, how to install, configure and work with it in The Bat! in the corresponding article on our website.

Setting up the program

Maximum flexibility and the ability to configure almost all aspects of working with mail are some of the main advantages of The Bat! in front of other mailers. Next, we will look at the main parameters of the program and the features of their use.

Interface

The appearance of the email client is absolutely inconspicuous and it certainly cannot be called stylish. But in terms of organizing a personal workspace, The Bat! can give odds to many of its analogues.

Actually, almost all elements of the program interface are scalable and can be moved by simply dragging them from one place to another. For example, by grabbing the left edge, the main toolbar can be dragged to any area of the visual representation of the email client.

Another way to add new items and reorganize them is through the menu bar item "Workspace". Using this drop-down list, you can clearly determine the location and display format of each component of the program interface.

The first group of parameters here allows you to turn on or off the display of auto-viewing windows for letters, addresses and notes. Moreover, for each such action there is a separate key combination, also displayed in the list.

The point deserves special attention "Toolbars". It allows you not only to hide, show, and change the configuration of existing panels, but also to create completely new ones - personalized sets of tools.

The latter is possible using the subparagraph "Tune". Here in the window "Customizing panels", from dozens of functions on the list "Actions" you can assemble your own panel, the name of which will be displayed in the list "Containers".

In the same window, in the tab "Hotkeys", you can “attach” a unique key combination to each action.

To customize the appearance of the list of letters and the emails themselves, we need to go to the menu bar item "View".

In the first group, consisting of two parameters, we can choose which emails to show in the email list, as well as what criteria to sort them by.

Paragraph "View threads" allows us to group letters with a common characteristic into message threads. This can often make working with large volumes of correspondence much easier.

"Letter Header"— a parameter in which we are given the opportunity to determine what information about the letter and its sender should be contained in the header panel of The Bat! Well, at the point "Columns of the list of letters..." we select the columns shown when viewing emails in a folder.

Further list options "View" relate directly to the format for displaying the contents of letters. For example, here you can change the encoding of received messages, enable the display of headers directly in the body of the letter, or specify the use of a regular text viewer for all incoming correspondence.

Fundamental Parameters

To go to a more detailed list of program settings, you should open the window "Setting up The Bat!", located along the way "Properties""Settings...".

So the group "Basic" contains parameters for autostarting the mail client, displaying the The Bat! in the Windows System Tray and behavior when minimizing/closing a program. In addition, there are some settings for the Bat interface, as well as an option for activating birthday alerts for members of your address book.

In chapter "System" You can change the location of the mail directory in the Windows file tree. In this folder The Bat! stores all its general settings and mailbox settings.

Settings for backing up emails and user data, as well as advanced settings for mouse buttons and sound alerts are also available here.

"Programs" serves to set specific associations The Bat! with supported protocols and file types.

A very useful feature - "Address history". It allows you to fully monitor your correspondence and add new recipients to your address book.

Chapter "List of letters" contains parameters for displaying email messages and working with them directly in the list of letters The Bat! All these settings are also presented as subsections.

Tab "Date and time", as you might guess, is used to configure the display of the current date and time in the list of The Bat! letters, or rather in the columns « Received" And "Created".

Next come two very specific categories of settings − "Color Groups" And "View Modes". Using the first, the user can assign unique colors in the list for mailboxes, folders and individual letters.

"Tabs" is intended for creating your own tabs with letters selected according to certain criteria.

The most interesting sub-item for us is "List of letters"- This "Mail Ticker". This function is a small creeping line placed on top of all system windows. It displays information about unread messages in your mailbox.

In the dropdown list "Show MailTicker(TM)" You can select modes for displaying a line in the program. The same tab allows you to specify letters with what priority, from what folders and with what statute of limitations will be displayed in the Mail Ticker ticker. Here you can completely customize the appearance of such an interface element.

Tab "Letter tags" is intended for adding, changing and deleting distinctive notes to letters.

In addition, the appearance of these same tags is completely customizable here.

Another and quite significant group of parameters is "Editor and Viewer of Messages". This contains the settings for the message editor and the message viewer module.

We will not delve into each item in this category of parameters. We only note that on the tab "Email Viewer and Editor" You can customize the appearance of each element in the editor and the content of incoming letters.

We simply place the cursor on the object we need and change its parameters using the tools below.

Next comes the settings section, which every The Bat user should definitely become familiar with - "Expansion modules". The main tab of this category contains a list of plugins integrated into the email client.

To add a new module to the list, you need to click on the button "Add" and find the corresponding TBP file in the Explorer window that opens. To remove a plugin from the list, simply select it on this tab and click "Delete". Well, the button "Tune" will allow you to go directly to the list of parameters of the selected module.

You can configure the operation of plugins in general using the sub-items of the main category "Virus protection" And "Spam protection". The first of them contains the same form for adding new modules to the program, and also allows you to determine which letters and files need to be scanned for viruses.

Actions to be taken when threats are detected are also set here. For example, having found a virus, the plugin can cure infected parts, delete them, delete the entire letter, or send it to the quarantine folder.

Tab "Spam protection" will be useful to you when using several extension modules to remove unwanted emails from your mailbox.

In addition to the form for adding new antispam plugins to the program, this category of settings contains parameters for working with letters, depending on the rating assigned to them. The rating itself is a number, the value of which varies within 100.

This way, you can ensure that multiple anti-spam extension modules work as efficiently as possible.

Next section - "Security settings for attached files"— allows you to determine which attachments are prohibited from opening automatically, and which can be viewed without warning.

In addition, the warning settings when opening files with extensions you define can be changed.

Thus, on the main category tab, you can configure the display of the quick response panel in some functional windows of the program.

Other tabs are used to manage conversion tables used when reading letters, set up confirmations for various actions, add request forms and create new keyboard shortcuts.

There is also a section here "SmartBat", in which you can configure the built-in The Bat! text editor.

Well, the final tab on the list "Incoming Email Analyzer" allows you to configure the incoming correspondence analyzer in detail.

This mail client component groups and sorts large volumes of messages from specific recipients into folders. Directly in the settings, you can adjust the parameters for scheduling the analyzer to run and cataloging screened emails.

In general, despite the abundance of various parameters in The Bat!, you are unlikely to have to understand absolutely all of them. It’s enough just to know where you can configure this or that program function.

general information

If you have an account on a MS Exchange 2007 server or higher, you can create in The Bat! mailbox and configure it to work with mail using the EWS (Exchange Web Services) protocol. There is no need to install additional programs or use an Outlook profile, as is the case with MAPI. In addition to letters, The Bat! will also download other MS Exchange components, such as calendars, contacts, tasks, notes.

When you first connect to The Bat! imports downloaded contacts into your address book. If reminders are assigned for emails, tasks or calendar events, The Bat! will add them to its own Planner. All other MS Exchange components are for informational purposes only.

Creating a new EWS mailbox

In the dialog box Creating a new mailbox enter your email address and password to access your Exchange account, select " Exchange Web Services (EWS)" in the combo box Protocol and click on the button Further.

The Bat! uses the Exchange Autodiscover service to automatically retrieve account setup information from your Exchange server. If your Exchange server is configured correctly, The Bat! will detect the Exchange server endpoint and display its address in the appropriate field.

If the program detects the endpoint, click Further.

If you cannot find the Exchange server endpoint (field " Exchange Server Endpoint" will remain empty), you can:

  • Change credentials and test connection
  • Enter the Exchange server endpoint manually
In field Email or user Enter your username or UPN to have the program discover the endpoint:

(login by domain/user)

Or

(login via UPN)

In the first screenshot, access uses the domain name and username separated by a backslash.

In the second screenshot, UPN is used for access: login name, "@" sign and domain name.

Click the button Check! to The Bat! started searching for the Exchange server endpoint. Each time, the setup wizard will run several jobs simultaneously to find the best solution. All Exchange endpoints found will be added to the drop-down menu. The animation will be displayed until the search process is completed.

note: If you don't know what username you need to enter to access the Exchange server, enter the credentials that you use to access your account through OWA (Outlook Web Access).

If the program is unable to determine the Exchange server endpoint, ask your server administrator to provide you with the endpoint and access credentials (UPN and password, or username and password).

Later you can change the access settings in the menu Mailbox -> Mailbox Properties -> Transport.

If the Exchange server endpoint is not automatically detected or is not accessible, it may be that your Exchange server administrator has blocked EWS access. To check, try connecting to https://mail.company.com/ews/exchange.asmx: an authentication window should appear.
After successful authentication, you should receive a WSDL definition of the EWS. If you do not receive it, please contact your Exchange server administrators to change the appropriate server settings.
To get the Exchange server endpoint, you can also use the page provided by Microsoft: https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com
On the Exchange Server tab, select the Microsoft Exchange Web Services Connectivity Tests section and after testing, examine the details - you should see the EwsUrl value. Use this address as the endpoint of the Exchange server in The Bat!

You can also set certificate verification options. A security warning may appear if your Exchange server is using a self-signed or expired certificate:

You can add it to the Windows certificate store (View Certificate | Install Certificate | Next | Place all certificates in the following store | Browse | | OK | Next | Finish).

To avoid receiving a security warning, you can enable the option Don't check peer certificate.

Attention: You don't have to check the certificate unless you trust the source.

When the Autodiscover process completes, click Further.

Field your name will display your name on the Exchange server. If the connection has been established, then in this field you will see the full name that the program received from the server. Otherwise, this field will display the name that you specified in the first step of creating a mailbox.

The second field will indicate the name of your mailbox in the folder tree.

Below you can select your mailbox's home directory - the place where all information associated with it will be stored. If you want to select a different directory, click the button Review and specify the desired directory.

Click Ready to complete the process of creating a new box. As soon as the box appears in the folder tree, the program will establish a connection to the server and download the folders with their contents.

Receiving emails and folder structure

The Bat! will download all folders with their contents (except for the Deletions, Archive and Recoverable folders) the first time you connect to the server.

In addition to standard folders, the program will load the Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and some others folders, which will display MS Exchange components such as events, contacts, tasks, notes, RSS subscriptions. The Bat! can also download the contents of Exchange public folders. If you have rights to the public folder, you will see it in the All Public Folders folder.

The program will display all the attributes used in Outlook that match the functionality of The Bat! and RFC822, such as Subject, Sender, Recipient, Cc, Bcc and other headers, flags, attachments, tags, encryption, date and time of receipt and creation of the letter, size.

The program can download letters received from a specific day. When creating a mailbox, you can enable the option Load elements created after and indicate the date. Letters received earlier than this day, The Bat! won't load. You can also enable this option in the box properties in the “Transport” section.

If you are connected to social networks in Outlook (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn), the contact folders of these social networks will also appear in the mailbox tree in The Bat! Each contact contains an attached vCard, photo, or other files that you have assigned to that contact.

The Bat! can also download contacts from the corporate network. To do this, when creating a mailbox, enable the option Upload Active Directory contacts. This option can also be enabled in the box properties in the “Transport” section. Contacts from the corporate network are saved in the EWS folder of the Active Directory mailbox. Contacts in this folder cannot be deleted or moved. The program automatically imports contacts from the corporate network into the EWS address book.

When you first connect to the server, The Bat! will create an address book and import downloaded contacts into it. The name of such an address book consists of the name of the mailbox and the mark “”:

You can change the name of this address book, but it will still be associated with your EWS mailbox. If you delete your address book, your contacts will disappear from The Bat! You can import them again from the file<имя контакта>.vcf attached to each contact. The next time you connect to The Bat! will detect that the address book is missing and create a new one.

If you have assigned a reminder to an email, task or event in Outlook or OWA, The Bat! will add this reminder to Planner as soon as you upload this email/task/event. The program will notify you about the event at the appointed time.

If you create an item on the Exchange server, The Bat! will download it when connecting to the server. However, elements created in The Bat! will not be transmitted to the server, they are stored locally.

Synchronization

When The Bat! downloads MS Exchange items, they are saved locally. If these elements change on the server, The Bat! will not display them until you clear the folder cache.

If you delete items using the Delete key, they will be deleted from the Exchange server.

If you delete items using alternative deletion (the keyboard shortcut Shift+Delete), they will also be deleted from the server (in this case, Exchange soft delete mode is used). If you recover deleted items in The Bat! via menu Folder -> View deleted emails(to restore a deleted letter, select it and press the Delete key), they will only be saved locally.

If you delete a letter downloaded to The Bat! from the Exchange server, it will not be deleted from the program, however, if you clear the folder cache, the letter will not be downloaded again.

When you move and copy emails and Exchange items to EWS mailbox folders, they are also uploaded to the server in the corresponding folders. When you move a letter from a folder, it is deleted from the folder on the server.

The Bat! supports synchronization of Read/Unread, Flagged flags, and accepts the Parked (“is draft” flag in Exchange terminology). For example, if you mark an email as read in The Bat!, it will also appear as read in another email client. The Reply and Forwarded/Forwarded flags are not synchronized.

The Bat! synchronizes the priority of letters and the sensitivity mark (Sensitivity). The privacy mark appears as a tag. To change it, right-click on the letter and select a tag in the “Tags” section. Attributes that are not supported in The Bat! are displayed as tags. Color group synchronization is not supported.

Folder management

Folders in The Bat! are displayed in the language set in your account on the server (OWA -> Options -> Regional -> Language -> Save). If you change the language in the OWA settings, the folder names in The Bat! will also change.

If you rename, move or delete a folder in The Bat!, these changes will be reflected on the server, and therefore in other email clients. If you create a folder in The Bat!, it will appear on the server. If the folder structure on the server changes (you rename, create, delete or move folders), The Bat! will also update the folder structure when connecting to the server.

If you don't want to see a folder in the mailbox tree, but want to save it on the server, you can hide it: select the folder, press the Delete key and select the option Hide folder.

To hide folders, you must also enable the option in the menu Mailbox -> Mailbox Properties -> Transport:

If this option is disabled, hidden folders will be restored the next time you connect to the server.

So you can enable the option Keep a list of hidden folders and hide folders. To show all hidden folders again, disable this option and call the “Get new mail” command.

You can also clear the folder cache by clicking the button Clear cache on the menu Folder –> Folder Properties -> EWS Properties. After cleaning The Bat! will download Exchange items from the server again.

T HE BAT!
Step-by-step instructions for setup and use.

L The best program for receiving, sending and storing email. The main advantage of the program is the ability to receive and send from many mailboxes from different servers. THE BAT program! – this is not something clever, but simply mail program, or, in other words - mail client. If you are going to work via the Internet, then you understand that you will have to work with mail often and a lot. Of course, you can go to the mail site every time and do everything there, but this is very inconvenient. And if your Internet speed is not very good, then... the site itself will take longer to load than the letter, and it may turn out that the necessary letter is not there and you wasted your time. Mail client will deliver your mail directly to your computer at any time, and no websites are needed...

In fact, there are quite a few email programs, but this is one of the most popular. I use it too, although I have tried others. In contrast, the email client has many advantages. Here are a few that I particularly like:

1) you can configure the mailbox only once, and forget about this matter. The program can save its settings and mail in a separate folder, and even after a complete reinstallation of the system and program, it only needs to point to this folder - and everything will fall into place, as it was. This is the biggest advantage - in other programs you have to spend time on settings every time, and this is just annoying sometimes.

2) can only download email headers, and you decide which to receive and which to delete immediately on the server, and not waste time on receiving them. I chose the ones I needed and got them. It's simple.

3) can work with many mailboxes, and it is quite conveniently done.

4) can check mail on a schedule, and you can configure it for each mailbox separately. If you want, you will receive mail once a day; if you want, you will receive mail every minute. It's comfortable.

Okay, enough about the advantages, although I haven’t found any disadvantages in several years. Let's move on to setting up this excellent program. I won’t tell you where to get it and how to install it - there is an email program on almost every disk - a collection of programs, and you can find it on the Internet without any problems. Setting up The bat!, however, is not very simple, but it is done only once, and not every time after reinstalling the system, as in other programs.

It installs easily, like a regular program. But! Then you need to create a separate folder somewhere, on some disk, in a safe place, and call it, for example, “My Mail”, or something similar. All letters and program settings will be stored in this folder.

So, here is the window of the program itself:

As you can see, there is nothing complicated here, on the right are mailboxes with all their “ Inbox», « Sent» and other good things, and on the left are their contents.

I’ll show you how to set up the program using the example of a box on mail.ru, which we registered in the post You will understand the principle, with others it’s about the same, only on gmail the setup is different, but with the rest - the difference is only in the servers, otherwise everything is the same.

So, let's go to the menu " Box"at the top of the program, there we click on " New mailbox" Like this:

A window like this will appear where you need to write the name of our mailbox.

This will be the name that is used in the right window of the mail program - not the address, but just the name. Maybe you can call him " super duper suitcase", doesn't matter. Just below you need to specify the “home directory”. Press the button " Review"and look for that folder for letters and settings that I told you to create in advance. Everything will be stored in it. You can even throw it onto a flash drive and transfer all your mail to another computer, if necessary.

Here you need to enter the e-mail address that you registered for yourself. You don't have to write the organization. Click " again" Further»

You don't need to do anything here if your mailbox is registered to mail.ru. But if on Yandex, then in the first line “ Server for receiving mail"it will be necessary to make it happen pop3. The program itself simply puts pop. There should be a checkmark at the bottom. In short, compare so that it looks like in the picture and again “Next”, we have a box on mail.ru, so you don't have to fix anything.

Here you need to enter Name And password, under which you registered your mailbox so that the mail program could connect to the mail server under your name

The last window simply offers you to look at other settings of your mailbox, and there are a lot of them. Select " Yes" and click " Ready" We need to change some more settings.

First, click on the top button “ Authentication", there the mail program sets the wrong settings. We see this:

We don’t need this, we set the switch to “ Use mail receiving options" It will be like this:

Click " OK"so that our choice is saved.

In the settings window, also click “ OK». Setting up The Bat! finished. In fact, this is all done much faster and not as difficult as it seems here. Just for one minute, just at the end you need to check the settings for sending mail, otherwise the mail program will only be able to receive it, but will not be able to send letters.

Using the program is quite simple, I think there is no need to write instructions for this, unless there are special requests.

Or maybe you are using something else? mail client? Share in the comments which one and what is yours mail program you like.
